Important Changes to Booking on SSCP Training!

We’ve recently been working on some updates to our training booking system to make it clearer which course needs to be completed when, as well as to make sure you have the best information in order to safeguard children and young people effectively.

From the 1st April we will be bringing in some changes to how some training events are booked and what you’ll need to do to ensure you can attend the course you need.

What’s Changed?

Booking onto the Advanced Child Protection Update Training:

After the 1st April we will be automating the booking system so that you will only be able to book onto the Advanced Child Protection Update training if your certification is within date.

To book on the Advanced CP Update course you will have to have:

  • Attended the Advanced Child Protection 2 Day Training within the last 2yrs OR
  • Attended the Advanced Child Protection Update Training within the last 2yrs.

It is important therefore that you ensure you book your place on the Update training in plenty of time to ensure a space on the course you need and prevent your certification from expiring.

Later on this year we will also be bringing in similar restrictions to booking onto the Advanced Child Protection 2 Day Training to ensure those who are attending have completed any prerequisite training that is required.

What if my certification runs out by the time I want to book on a course?

In order to be able to book on a course the date of the event must be within 2yrs of when you attended the prerequisite training to ensure your certification remains valid.

You will not be able to book on a course date which is outside of this 2yr period.

Why have you bought in these changes?

Since moving to our current booking system a couple of years ago we have seen an increasing number of people booking on training when they haven’t completed the required prerequisite training beforehand.

The core safeguarding training is designed so that different topics are covered in different courses, from covering the foundations of what safeguarding is in the Introduction to Child Protection Training, to understanding the processes in order to safeguard in the Advanced Child Protection 2 Day training, through to gaining important updates and refreshers in the Advanced Child Protection Update course, so it’s important that we make sure everyone is attending the training they require.

Important Changes for Childminders

From the 1st April we will also be bringing in some important new changes to the training requirements for Childminders.

From this date, Childminders who have completed the Introduction to Child Protection and looking to progress onto the Advanced Child Protection Update training, or those whose certification has expired, will need to complete the new ‘Childminders Prerequisite eLearning’ module, which is also available on our training system.

This eLearning is free and has been developed in consultation with partner agencies to ensure that as a Childminder you receive those key pieces of information needed to understand how to identify the needs of a family and know how to ensure the correct support is in place at the right time.
